As we stand on the precipice of a significant lifestyle change, the excitement of purchasing an RV to embark on a grand adventure fills my thoughts. It's not just about the RV; it's about the vibrancy of travel, the call of the open road, and the unique experiences awaiting me on the historic Route 66. This journey is an opportunity to explore the heart of America while integrating my passion for my online business, and creating relationships along our route.
Purchasing the Right RV
The initial step in this exciting venture involves finding the perfect RV. The RV market is vast, offering various options based on size, functionality, size, and budget. My criteria for selection include the TOW WEIGHT (which most people don't consider at first), comfort for long journeys, the ability to cook, and enough space to store the products I plan to sell at markets. Researching online and visiting local dealerships will be crucial in this process. Additionally, speaking with other RV enthusiasts and reviewing their experiences will help guide my decision-making. Stay tuned for a post about our decision-making, and buying process!
Planning Route 66
Traveling Route 66 represents more than just a road; it's a journey through America's rich history and diverse landscapes. I plan to chart out various destinations along the route that highlight local culture and community. With this year celebrating it's 100th anniversary, it just seemed like fate calling us. Each stop is an opportunity to engage with local farmers, artisans, and fellow travelers. I intend to document these interactions, sharing insights from my experiences and the unique products I find along the way. We plan on splitting our Route 66 journey into 2 parts, with a summer job at Yellowstone National Park! Stay tuned for a post about the process of planning a roadtrip in an RV!
Yellowstone National Park
To break up the Route 66 drive and add an epic chapter to this adventure, we're lining up a summer job at Yellowstone National Park—the world's first national park and a bucket-list wonderland of geysers, wildlife, and endless trails. Spending the peak season there will be the perfect "intermission" after the first leg of Route 66, giving us time to immerse ourselves in nature before tackling the second half of the Mother Road.
Working in Yellowstone means living right in the heart of it all— perfect for meeting people from around the world and building those lifelong connections. It's not just a job; it's a chance to live the "Live. Work. Explore." motto—waking up to elk outside your window, joining employee recreation programs like rafting or guided hikes, and soaking in the magic of 2.2 million acres of wilderness. This experience will recharge us, inspire new product ideas for my handmade business (maybe some nature-inspired pieces!), and give me fresh stories to share on the blog. Plus, with the park's emphasis on community and environmental passion, it'll align beautifully with connecting to people and places along our overall journey. After the summer, we'll hit the road refreshed for the rest of Route 66!
Integrating Business with Travel
While our journey will be filled with exploration and adventure, it is equally essential to maintain my online business selling handmade products. My plan includes regular entries on my blog, where I will share not only my adventures on Route 66 but also feature the farmers' markets I visit, the people I meet, and the products I create. This blend of travel and entrepreneurship will be an enriching experience, allowing me to connect with my audience and spread my mission of Compassion + Action + Fashion.
Future Outlook
As we prepare for this incredible journey, the anticipation of purchasing an RV and traveling along Route 66 fills me with joy. The blend of personal growth, exploration, and entrepreneurship creates a unique narrative that I am excited to share. My blog will serve as a platform to document this adventure, offering insights and inspiration to others wishing to embark on similar journeys.
Stay tuned as we share our experiences from our RV purchase and beyond, highlighting the remarkable people, places, and adventures along this iconic American route!
